About
Southern EweScan was established in South Australia in 1995 and now also operates in Victoria, Tasmania and NSW. Owned and operated by experienced sheep scanner, Jim McCure, Southern EweScan scans around 200,000 sheep annually.
Benefits of Ultrasound Pregnancy Scanning in Ewes
01.
Identify pregnancies, (singles/multiples), foetal aging, (late/early), and improve lamb survival through better feed allocation & shelter.
02.
Re-mate dry ewes or sell them to allow for replacement and better nutrition for the remaining pregnant ewes.
03.
Early detection of fertility problems. Discovery of infertility is often made at scanning.
Scanning Essentials
01.
Scanning should occur less than 90 Days from start of joining to accurately detect multiples.
02.
Scanning should occur 40 Days post ram removal for wet/dry detection.
03.
Sheep should be kept off feed and water overnight prior to scanning.
04.
2 x Assistants to maintain efficiency and throughput.
05.
If ewes are in need of crutching or wigging, this should done prior to scanning.
06.
Avoid a long joining period, - accuracy diminishes in flocks joined for more than 5 to 6 weeks
